about

We learned this song from a recording by English Pagan rock band Inkubus Sukkubus, the words written by Candia and Tony McKormack. The song tells a tale of supernatural evil from Gloucestershire, but its origins are based on truth. A young girl was raped by both the Lord of Swindon Manor and her own uncle. Maude dies, the Lord of the Manor declares it a suicide and following the law of the time, Maude’s body is impaled at the nearest crossroads in order to stop her tormented soul from returning to haunt the living. Her mother goes mad with grief and is persecuted as a wytch, but the malicious men meet their deaths at the hands of Maude's avenging angel.
